If you live in East Texas, you know that our outdoor lifestyle comes with two major challenges: the sweltering humidity and the relentless mosquitoes. While an open deck is a great start, many homeowners in Chandler and the surrounding areas are finding that they simply don’t use their outdoor spaces as much as they’d like because of these factors. This is exactly why a screened-in porch in Chandler TX has become the gold standard for home improvements in our region.
At ABC Decking, we specialize in helping you reclaim your backyard. Led by Aaron Baugh, who brings over 35 years of hands-on construction experience to every project, we focus on building high-quality, wooden outdoor structures that provide a seamless transition from your living room to the fresh air.
The Lifestyle Benefits of Screened-In Porches in East Texas
Choosing to invest in a screened-in porch is about more than just adding square footage; it is about improving your quality of life. In a climate like ours, an enclosure transforms a seasonal space into a year-round retreat.
Bug-Free Relaxation
The most immediate benefit is the protection from pests. East Texas is notorious for mosquitoes and gnats, especially during the humid summer months. A professionally installed screen allows you to enjoy the evening breeze without the constant need for bug spray or citronella candles. As expert porch builders in Chandler TX, we ensure that your enclosure is tightly sealed to keep even the smallest critters out.
Natural Cooling and Shade
A screened porch provides a significant temperature drop compared to an open deck. The roof overhead blocks direct UV rays, while the mesh screens allow for natural cross-ventilation. This combination keeps the space significantly cooler, making it a comfortable spot for morning coffee or afternoon reading, even when the Texas sun is at its peak.
A Cleaner Outdoor Environment
One of the overlooked benefits of back porch enclosures in Chandler TX is how much cleaner they stay. The screens act as a filter, reducing the amount of wind-blown debris, leaves, and pollen that settle on your furniture. This means you spend less time sweeping and scrubbing your outdoor chairs and more time actually enjoying them.
3 Screened-In Porch Designs That Work for Chandler Homes
Every home has a unique layout and every homeowner has different needs. Here are three distinct designs that we frequently recommend and build at ABC Decking.
1. The Classic Wraparound Screened Porch
The wraparound design is a timeless choice that maximizes your home’s curb appeal and functional space. By extending the porch around one or more corners of the house, you create multiple "zones" for different activities. You might have a dining area on one side and a lounge area on the other. This design is particularly effective for larger properties where you want to take advantage of views from different angles.
2. The Practical Back Porch Enclosure
For many homeowners, the goal is to take an existing back door area and expand it into a functional room. This design focuses on a standard rectangular or square addition directly off the main living space. It is a highly cost-effective way to gain a significant amount of usable space. By using high-quality pressure-treated lumber and professional-grade screening, we create a durable extension that feels like a natural part of your home’s architecture.
3. The Feature-Rich Screened Porch with Custom Layouts
If you want your porch to be the primary gathering spot for your family, a custom layout is the way to go. This might include dedicated areas for outdoor electronics, integrated seating benches, or custom lighting solutions. We can design these porches with specific architectural details that mirror your home’s aesthetic, ensuring the new structure adds maximum value to your property.

Our "One Job at a Time" Commitment
In the construction industry, it is common for contractors to juggle multiple projects at once, leading to delays and overlooked details. At ABC Decking, we do things differently. We focus on one project at a time. This ensures that:
- Meticulous Attention to Detail: Every cut, every screw, and every screen panel is installed with precision.
- Efficient Timelines: Because we aren't splitting our crew between multiple sites, your project stays on schedule.
- Direct Communication: Aaron personally designs every project and stays closely connected to each job by reviewing daily photo updates from the crew and checking in with the crew every day.
Choosing the Right Materials for Your Porch
While some may suggest alternative materials, ABC Decking remains committed to the beauty and structural integrity of high-quality wood. Wood offers a warmth and natural aesthetic that perfectly complements the East Texas landscape. We use professional-grade, pressure-treated lumber that is specifically selected for its durability in our humid climate.
By focusing on wood construction, we provide a product that is not only visually stunning but also structurally superior for custom-designed porches and additions.
